The series brings the action into the modern era
Narrative
The Jackal is an elusive assassin who makes his living by carrying out high-stakes assassinations. He soon meets his match in the form of a persistent British intelligence officer who tracks him down in a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe. The action of the novel “The Day of the Jackal” is set in 1963 and concerns an assassination attempt on then-President of France Charles de Gaulle.
The budget was definitely there
A remake of “The Day of the Jackal” (1973). If you call a series “The Jackal”, you have to show some determination and quality. That’s the case for the first 20 minutes, but then (as is often the case) it gets intense.
The set design is good
The camera work is okay, not too shaky, but with a lot of blur. But the script is bad, often just plain stupid. “The Jackal” is simply not there, they should have called it “The Day of the Auto-Bomber”.
Not worth tuning in
To the actors: Eddie Redmayne does a serviceable job, but Lashana Lynch was probably the most miscast character I’ve seen this year. The new season of “Silo” is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month. Check out our November calendar for more!
